about

"Wirral-based multi-instrumentalist David Miller, the brains behind News From Neptune, is a musician who exhibits a deft touch in transmuting his innermost feelings to music. The swells of emotion that characterise his debut EP The Cold Open grip you around your navel and cause the blood to go rushing to your ears. Ranging from the sweeping of lush electronica to the restive meanderings of skittering beats, News From Neptune’s introspective instrumentalism is a fascinating reflection of the human psyche." - Christopher Torpey in Bido Lito magazine, August 2016 - www.bidolito.co.uk/news-from-neptune/

"News From Neptune is the brainchild of British musician David Miller and he delivers big on his debut E.P. "The Cold Open". All four songs offer up a variety of tones that are futuristic and inspiring. From the opening notes of the title track you know you are in for something special as the colorful wash of atmospheric sounds flow through your ears with never ending beauty. "Viewfinder" is more melodic and catchy as it's psychedelic flair and infectious riffs make it second to none while the pulsating spirit of "The Man In The Microllight" offers a blend of highly textured tones that are incredible refreshing. Closing piece "Head On Backwards" is a stunning composition that comes off like the theme to a futuristic t.v. sitcom. I really can't say enough good things about this release. Miller has really carved out his own musical style here that perfectly merges elements of more traditional compositions with experimental madness. A truly delightful and inspiring work of art." - Custom Made Music, Virginia, US, December 2016 - custommademusic.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/six-records-cmm-wants-you-to-know_22.html

"The music itself is a bit tricky to pin down stylistically which hopefully works to its advantage. My background is in psychedelic pop like The Flaming Lips, The Teardrop Explodes, The Beach Boys etc with a homemade feel inspired by R Stevie Moore and Ariel Pink. A greater variety of influences have come into play in recent years, though - maybe hints of early post-rock through the likes of Bark Psychosis, Tortoise, AR Kane and Disco Inferno; traces of post-punk starkness from artists like This Heat and The Durutti Column; possibly even jazz-derived elements drawing upon Robert Wyatt, Sun Ra and old Ethiopiques compilations. It's hard to say really - I'm not the best judge of my own material!" - David Miller

"'Viewfinder' is my favourite by the way. Reminds me of the underground levels on Mario." - Lee Pennington, Pure Joy
