about

'The Opposite Of Nostalgia EP' is the third in a series of COVID/lockdown-era collections of mellotron-powered pastoral pop under the Gordon Bennett alias. While I'm still very happy with the two previous instalments, they don't half sound a bit glum in hindsight.

With that in mind, I've aimed this time to produce something less aggressively melancholy and lighter in tone, hopeful even.

Alongside the usual references like The High Llamas, Robert Wyatt, Oddfellow's Casino and The Durutti Column, other influences on this occasion might include great Japanese folkies such as Tenniscoats and Eddie Marcon, Building Instrument, Hamilton Yarns, Woo, wonderful Scandinavian labels like Häpna, Hubro and Fonal plus homegrown ones like Clay Pipe and Spillage Fete.

Don't be discouraged if none of that means a great deal to you - it's all still as mellifluous and pedantically melodic as ever!

As ever the brilliant mastering comes courtesy of Rory Ballantyne at The Fade while Craig Sinclair provides a stunning pastel sketch for the artwork as well as four of the five song titles.
